Summer Effect is a post-rock band from Indonesia. They have been playing as an instrumental band which blends shoegaze, ambient and post-rock.

Reverie is the fourth album from post-rock duo Summer Effect. In this album, they produced an extraordinary mixture of a cinematic music, post-rock and ambient, resulting in a very rich work.

Summer Effect create a beautiful chaotic album with heavy guitar sounds, soft and delicate piano, pads and full of string sections in this album. They hope it is going to give a positive message to the listeners. All the positive words comes from the instrumental music, they say “Listen carefully to hear this words. They are not there. There are no actual words. But feel the music and you will hear them.”

Nearly all the songs composed on a piano and a pad sounds. Then added beat drums, bass, and guitar as well as little sound effects to add nuances on each track based on the titles of the songs they make.

Summer Effect are inviting people who likes shoegaze, ambient and post-rock – which produce certain vibrations of atmosphere – to listen Reverie. This is a cinematic guitar album with piano, strings and drums.

Afterlife is the third album from Summer Effect which contains 10 instrumental post-rock, progressive songs. In this album they tried to play tones with fractional composition of different time signatures. Simple and unexpected chord progression to produce a unique dynamic, stomping, dark vibe, like what is being experienced on the track Envoy, Clouded Minds or Don’t Let Me Disappear. They are assisted by a musician named ‘Erdi David’ (Dwaninungka), which fills the bass on the song Beating Heart & Everything Seems Different. Also, the drums sounds warmer than their previous albums.

Summer Effect comes with their third record, inviting people who likes shoegaze, ambient and post-rock to produce certain vibrations of atmosphere to listen “After Life”.

Their label debut “Starting Over” was released in September 2014 and band got its name out of their country. Soon after they started on their next recording.

The new album “Nothing But Hope” has interesting, unique and colorful nuance in each of its song. It has a comfortable sound between instrumental, rock, post-rock, alternative, experimental. Ibo says “We maintain the minimalism and dynamic of our musical nuance. It has more acoustic elements combined with an electric guitar harmonies, distortion, keyboard, as well as several other instruments.”

These instruments sometimes get deeper as in the song “Nothing’s Ever Good Enough For You” and sometime they follow more energetic approach. It seems that band members can’t wait to release their new work. Again let’s wait for the response from the fans.

Summer Effect – Afterlife – Album Review

Summer Effect

Summer Effect have released a new album – Afterlife.

The background to Summer Effect is that they are an Indonesian group, which for this album wanted to take things to smoother vibrations.

However, when you think things are nicely quiet you get awoken to blistering raised sounds, which extracted the depths of the energic fire within our souls.

The tracks on Afterlife are instrumental so when you listen to each instrumental composition, you just have to let go and start to build a visual picture of what Summer Effect are conveying to you – the listener.

The overall assumption combining each of the track titles together is how a person is perceived by others in life, and how they try-to-fit – into the world and people around them.

One of the best rules is just to be you, regardless of what others think of you!

So, Afterlife being the last track, sounds like a new beginning after all of the commotion that builds-up in a lifetime.

SUMMER EFFECT SHAPES PROGRESSIVE INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

Grant Looper

5 years ago1

Summer Effect

When vocalization became a more common part of mainstream music, instrumentation at times took a backburner. Although vocals are an important artistic component to music, instrumentals can often be the real heart of a piece. With Indonesian band Summer Effect, it’s the sole element.

Their post-rock album, Afterlife, takes instrumentalism to an entirely new level of expression and passion.

Summer Effect — No Vocals Required

Formed in 2012, Afterlife is Summer Effect’s third album. Their progressive sound is one that not only distinguishes them from other instrumental groups, but that will hopefully come to characterize instrumental music for years to come. They’ve really outdone themselves on this one, combining their own talent with that of musician Erdi David.

Album opener “Quiet Company” starts out with a repetitive, acoustic melody and an ominous background that gets more and more prominent as the song progresses. From there it goes straight into a wild, menacing sound, keeping the ever-present eerie feeling with low piano chords and bass guitar. It fades, ending on the same minimalistic acoustic note it began with.

“Beating Heart” has a clean guitar intro that conveys real feeling right from the start. Its use of bells later on provides an interesting touch of sentimentality to the track. “Clouded Minds” is another interesting piece, with its drum and glam guitar intro, and a style that goes from simple to complicated pretty quick. It ends with these heavy, rolling guitar riffs driven by a noticeable underlying passion.

With “Everything Seems Different,” things are… well, different (but in a really interesting way). It has a nostalgic feel to it. Somewhere in the middle a choral accompaniment kicks in, providing the listener with an otherworldly, almost heavenly impression. It eventually speeds up with some quick, rhythmic chords reinforced by energetic, crashing drums before ending on a more subdued style, everything toning down to a satisfying conclusion.

As I’ve said many times before, many different genres have their flagship bands. And while it’s hard to say what success newer bands will have later on, it’s obvious which ones have talent.

Summer Effect definitely has talent, and I don’t think anything could hold them back.

Purchase Afterlife on iTunes now.

Summer Effect LP “Afterlife” a Post-Rock Epic (indiebandguru.com)

Wonderful multi-instrumentalist duo from Indonesia in the best mix of environment, shoegaze and post rock, with harmonious melodies, simple, distorted chords and strong and striking beats in a growing and enveloping atmospheric sense.

Of extreme senility and a virtuous vibration.
His work is fantastic, rich in details, creative, with a smooth and enveloping cadence.

Great band, it was an honor and privilege to make this compilation, I hope you like it.
