Echotal

Throughout three decades of working as a visual artist, music has been a constant companion. It took a long time and some guidance to realise that my own compositions could be sourced from the same well as the art.

Echotal was recorded near our home in the hills of County Wicklow. Produced, engineered and mastered by Torsten Kinsella of God Is An Astronaut, who have their studio just down the road. Torsten also co-wrote one of the tracks. Around the same time I did the artwork for his band’s latest album release ‘Ghost Tapes #10’. The Echotal project was borne out of a need to explore the two strands of my creative world – visual art and music – and we have attempted to interweave both in this EP, which mixes instrumental numbers and lyric-driven songs.

Echotal’s chief collaborator is multi-instrumentalist Jay Wilson, who has toured with and arranged for James Vincent McMorrow. The other collaborators on the project are London-based cellist and composer Jo Quail, producer Ross Tones (aka Throwing Snow) and Hannah Cartwright of Snow Ghosts. All of whom made contributions that further distilled what we were trying to do, while also managing to chart new territory to explore in the future. I am very grateful for…

The music was inspired by a shorter animation sequence that was originally commissioned for the National Trust for Scotland’s Glencoe Visitor Centre as part of a film that portrayed the events of February 1692. Sincere gratitude to the Glencoe Centre for allowing us the expand on the original animation, the story resonated with us all.

Wonderful instrumental Duo, lyric by Wicklow, Ireland.

Released today, 25/02/2021 his debut album “Echotal”, has several special guest appearances.

Their melodies are soft, ambient, with wonderful strumming in counterpoint with a beautiful cello, marked by a soft percussion, with harmonious vocals in an atmospheric background.

From a linear cadence, full of contemplative feelings, echo in immersive and reflective soundscapes and visuals that narrate a tragedy in 1692.

A great concept album, smooth, pleasurable, full of creative details that slide in harmony in the narration of your narratives with brilliance and impeccable technique.
